About Gorah Elephant Camp

Goarh is a 5000 hectare private game reserve in the Eastern Cape and is located in the Addo National Elephant Park, which boasts the densest elephant population in the world. Gorah Elephant Camp takes you back to a 1900’s authentic African safari experience where it’s colonial manner meets the luxuries of the modern world. Gorah is set on magnificent landscapes and the scenery is mind blowing. The manor house looks over the wide open plains with herds of elephants walking past right in front of you. Gorah Elephant Camp is renowned for it’s personalised service and exclusive safari experiences and only hosts 22 guests in the entire establishment.

The intimate safari drives takes place in an open 4×4 safari vehicle. You will have the opportunity to see the big 5 as well as a large variety of other wildlife such as warthogs, kudu, zebras, jackals, diverse herds of buffalo and much more. There is also a huge bird life living here. At Gorah Elephant Camp the photographic opportunities are perfect. The rangers deliver an intimate experience and close up sightings with the wildlife, their passion for what they do is inspiring. On the game drives there are stops at scenic locations where you can get out and have canapes and drinks.

Back at the lodge, the manor house overlooks the water hole that attracts wildlife from the crack of dawn until the sun goes down at the end of the day. The restaurant is something special and at night you will find hundreds of candles and little fires lighting up the night. The 11 luxury tented suites exceed expectations, carefully positioned to ensure privacy and exquisite views from your private deck. The attention to detail will impress the most experienced high class travellers from all around the globe.

The Safari Experience

Once you arrive at Gorah Elephant Camp you will soon see what all the fuss is about. A warm welcome and check in will get you started. You will be shown around the grounds and then you will be invited for lunch at the manor house. You will have some time to relax or explore and then in the afternoon you will go on your first safari drive. Later, dinner will be served and then you can sit back relax and enjoy the peaceful environment at the reserve.

The following day starts with a sunrise safari drive followed by breakfast. At Gorah Elephant Camp there are two game drives a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Both game drives last for 3 hours, there will be a stop for a morning coffee with snacks or in the evening, sundowners with canapes. Breakfast, lunch and high tea are served daily in the manor house, overlooking the open plains with elephants strolling past. In the evenings you will enjoy a fine dining experience. A three course set menu with a variety of options is served in the candlelit dining area. When you are not on the safari drives you will be spending your days on the veranda at the manor house overlooking the waterhole, parking off at the swimming pool or enjoying an activity on offer. At night, after dinner, you can enjoy the stillness of the night and gaze into the stars.

On the day of departure you will be up early for a sunrise safari. You will then have some time to relax and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, before you bid farewell and say goodbye.

Activities At Gorah

At Gorah Elephant Camp, if you are not relaxing at the swimming pool or watching the wildlife at the water hole perfectly positioned in front of the manner house, then you can take part in some of the activities they offer. Gorah offers intimate game drives, bird watching and mountain biking. You can also take part in the bush walks to get up close and personal with the wildlife and even track elephants by foot.

Location

Getting There

Fly to Port Elizabeth and drive for 40 minutes. The flight time from Cape Town is 2 hours. The drive from Cape Town takes 9 hours along the N2 highway and takes you through the scenic Garden Route. Transfers are arranged on request.

There are only 11 tented luxury suites at Gorah Elephant Camp and they are perfectly positioned with private viewing decks. The spacious suites boast the finest comforts and have thatched canopies. The attention to detail is superb and recalls the golden era of safaris in the 1900’s. Rooms can be converted to twin or king.
