About Gondwana

Gondwana is an 11,000 hectare private game reserve on South Africa’s famous Garden Route. Gondwana is just a 4 hour drive from Cape Town and it is only 45 minutes away from George International airport. Gondwana Game Reserve offers one of the most luxurious safari experiences in the area. This private game reserve on the Garden Route is home to the big five and a large variety of incredible wildlife that roam freely on the African landscapes. The reserve is malaria free and family friendly.

On the big 5 safari drives you will have a chance to see the incredible wildlife like the lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino, and leopards. And even more wildlife including eland, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, and zebra to name a few. The safari drives are taken by an expert ranger that has full knowledge of the area, the birds and the wildlife. Gondwana is more than just another game reserve on the Garden Route. The landscapes are packed with endemic flora and fauna and the setting here is just magnificent. The lodge boasts incredible African decor and looks out over the Langeberg and Outeniqua mountains. The service and hospitality is on point. The game reserve has a variety of luxurious accommodation options and fantastic activities that you can enjoy.

Gondwana Game Reserve also offers an eco camp program where you will have the opportunity to get more into the fundamentals of the game reserve. Here you will be introduced to game ranging and pay particular attention to the vegetation and welfare of the wildlife. This is a 3 or 5 day program that takes place deeper into to the reserve and for this program you will stay at the Gondwana eco camp.

The Safari Experience

Whether you are driving the Garden Route or flying into George airport you will soon arrive at the Gondwana Game Reserve. You will be checked into your room and shown around the lodge, then lunch will be served. In the afternoon the adventure is going to start with your first 4×4 safari drive through the game reserve. While you are enjoying the sunset and the wildlife, you will be able to have sun-downers too. Back at the reserve, you will be able to relax before dinner is served. Afterwards, you can just sit back and relax.

In the morning you will join a sunrise safari, before breakfast. At Gondwana Game Reserve the safari drives take place twice a day in an open safari 4×4 vehicle. A qualified ranger will make sure that you are getting the best experience possible. You will be served three outstanding meals a day in the lodge and enjoy an African cuisine and authentic decor. At Gondwana Game Reserve, when you aren’t on the safaris, there are some great activities that you can join out in nature or you can just relax at the swimming pool. At night after dinner it’s time to take it all in, watch the stars and listen to all the animal sounds. On the final day you will join the sunrise safari, have breakfast in the lodge and relax before you depart.

Activities At Gondwana

There are some fantastic activities at the Gondwana Game Reserve such as mountain biking, bird watching, fishing and hiking. Additional safaris on horseback can also be arranged during your stay. Guided nature walks and bird watching are very popular too. For children there is a junior ranger program. If a busy day is not what you had in mind, the lodge has amazing relaxation areas, a SPA and a swimming pool complimented by the fynbos filled landscapes and awe-inspiring views.

Essential Information

At Gondwana Game Reserve two safari drives per day and one safari drive the day you arrive and depart are included. All meals are include, but drinks are not. Spa treatments, drinks, and other additional activities are excluded and booking in advance is essential. Foreign tour guides are available on request. Transfers from George airport or Cape Town are not included but can be arranged.

Getting There

The drive from Cape Town takes 4 hours along the N2 highway or fly to George and drive for 20 minutes. Flight time from Cape Town to George is 45 minutes. Transfers from George airport and Cape Town are regularly arranged on request.

Kwena Lodge

The Kwena lodge is a twist on the traditional Khoi-San circular dwelling. Offering luxurious amenities like the Kwena room, 180degree nature views, and an indoor fireplace to keep you warm at night. You can also see the stars at night with the skylight in the room. A luxurious bath gives you some peace and quiet after a game drive. There is a braai area where you can enjoy a sundowner, or you can relax in the pool during the day. There is a total of 14 Kwena lodges.

The tented eco camp is the accommodation for people that are interested in the 3- or 5-day conservation program. This is an eco-friendly camp that is still giving you everything that you need. There is a boma for relaxing during the night, and a swimming pool for some relaxation during the hot summer day. All meals will be provided at the recreational communal tent.
