First up on the tour, we will make our way down to the V&A Waterfront and set-off this leg of our journey to one of the most historic places in South Africa, Robben Island.
A short ferry ride takes us there, some of which were the same boats, used to transport ex-prisoners and staff to and from the island. Once we arrive at Robben Island we will tour the island on a bus ride to all the historic sites, including the maximum-security prison where we will take a prison tour held by an ex-prisoner, and visit President Nelson Mandela’s prison cell.
After discovering Robben Island, we’ll make our way back onto the ferry and continue the tour enjoying; the views overlooking Cape Town from afar which are nothing short of simply magical. The backdrop of Table Mountain from the sea is a real sight and you won’t get to see these views from anywhere else.
The tour continues and we take a drive to one of the city’s most spectacular viewing points, Signal Hill. Here we will look over the city from a higher vantage point to put what we are about to tour into perspective.
We will then head back down and begin our walk past the historic landmarks of the city including the Castle of Good Hope, the Houses of Parliament and the Company Gardens. A beautiful sanctuary created to showcase the magnificence produced from nature such as lush flowers, plants, beautiful lawns that go on and on, and gorgeous trees. Filled with historic these very gardens are the grounds where European settlers planted the first tree in 1562 which remains in the garden.
Journeying on through the historic streets of Cape Town, we will enjoy the sights of the beautiful architecture and heritage buildings. The tour will take you to the vibrant and cultural Green Market Square, where you can take advantage of the liberty to purchase some great souvenirs to take home.
Drive through the Malay quarter, and discover more true history, where the area has been barely touched for centuries. The Malay quarter is famous for its colorful heritage buildings which still stand today.
We’ll then head back to your drop off point. After a day full of South Africa’s culture and history, you’ll be leaving more fulfilled and knowledgeable about the history of our beautiful land.
